Sprinklers

It has been identified that the fire safety within the building would benefit from a fire suppression system. These works are the next phase of the city-wide internal fire safety improvement work programme focussing on active fire safety measures. A sprinkler system would improve the safety of all residents in the block if there was a fire by helping to extinguish flames and prevent it from spreading.

We would put in a sprinkler system in each council flat in the block and in common areas. Owners can opt-in to have it installed in privately owned flats.

We would also put in a separate external water tank for the sprinkler system, a backup generator and some other equipment on the ground floor.

Next steps

If you're a council tenant, our contractor Harmony Fire Ltd will be in touch to talk you through what will happen over the next few months. They will also offer face to face information sessions and answer any questions people may have about the system.

We will set up an empty council flat with a sprinkler system so you can come and see how discreet the sprinkler installation is.

Information for owners

We would put in sprinkler systems in Council tenants’ homes, but private owners do not have to have them. There will be no cost to owners for this work or for the ongoing maintenance of the sprinkler system. However, all owners would need to vote to agree for us to do this work - we will be in touch soon with more information.

Owners can also choose to have sprinklers installed in their flat but would need to pay for their share of installation - please email HRMI@edinburgh.gov.uk  if you are interested.
