Charging costs, how to pay and conditions of use
Electric vehicle charging points are owned by different organisations and so costs vary. You should check the owner’s website and local signage for costs.

We clearly display information on each Council owned electric vehicle charging point. This includes costs (tariffs), maximum stay periods and penalties. You can also see this information on the ChargePlace Scotland app. We review these tariffs and maximum stay periods every year.
On Monday 2 June 2025 our tariffs changed, while our maximum stay periods remain the same.
The new tariffs are:
- Standard 7kW charging point: £0.51 per kWh
- Fast 22kW charging point: £0.56 per kWh
- Rapid 50kW charging point: £0.61 per kWh
Standard 7kW charging points (on-street)
- £0.51 per kWh
- maximum stay 12 hours
- £30 overstay penalty after 12 hours
- no return within 4 hours
Standard 7kW charging points (Park and Ride)
- £0.51 per kWh
- maximum stay 16 hours
- £30 overstay penalty after 16 hours
- no return within 4 hours
Fast 22kW charging points (on-street)
- £0.56 per kWh
- maximum stay 8 hours
- £30 overstay penalty after 8 hours
- no return within 4 hours
Fast 22kW charging points (Park and Ride)
- £0.56 per kWh
- maximum stay 16 hours
- £30 overstay penalty after 16 hours
- no return within 4 hours
Rapid 50kW charging points
- £0.61 per kWh
- maximum stay 90 minutes
- £30 overstay penalty after 90 minutes
- no return within 4 hours
- tariff and maximum stay apply to all connector types
There is a minimum charge of £1 for all types of charging points.
Our tariffs are based on the type of electric vehicle charging point. The amount of power your vehicle can receive depends on the make/model.
Penalties
You can only use an electric vehicle charging point to charge an electric vehicle. You do not have to pay for parking if you are using a charging point, however, do not park in an electric vehicle parking place without charging. If you do, you may receive a parking ticket.
You must move your electric vehicle within the maximum stay period. If you do not, you will be charged a £30 overstay penalty. ChargePlace Scotland manages the maximum stay periods and overstay penalties for us.
You cannot return to a electric vehicle parking place within four hours. If you do, you may receive a parking ticket.
We also have electric vehicle charging points for use by car club vehicles only. These are located within designated car club parking places. These spaces are clearly signposted. You may receive a parking ticket if you park a non-car club vehicle in a car club parking place.

You can pay for charging by . Once registered you can
- order an RFID card to start and end a charging session
- use the ChargePlace Scotland app to start and end a charging session without an RFID card
- use the app to check nearby charging points (type, charging costs and availability).

Pay as you go
You can also pay for charging by using ChargePlace Scotland’s . This allows you to use a debit or credit card without registering as a member. This is available on all our charging points.
Some of our electric vehicle charging points also offer a pay as you go service using contactless payments. Here you can pay with your debit or credit card, or mobile device. If you use our contactless payment service, you may see a payment hold on your account. Once your charging session has ended this will be updated to the final cost of your charging session.
