Temporary Library at Davidson鈥檚 Mains Primary School
Background
Blackhall Library is currently closed due to the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC). The detailed assessment of RAAC in this building concluded that, due to the poor condition of many panels, the level of work needed meant it wasn’t possible to keep running services from the building until a long term solution could be agreed.

The original Blackhall Library was a very popular resource and provided a wide range of library services, community events and activities. We know it’s important that people across Blackhall, Davidson’s Mains and the local area have access to quality local services in places that are convenient and accessible.
Your temporary library facility
A new temporary library facility at Davidson’s Mains Primary School will replace the current mobile library service. The facility sits within the school grounds, but is separated from the school by a fence and will have its own dedicated entrance. We’ll install signage at the gates to help guide people to the new building.
We’ve been busy finalising the library set up and we’re looking forward to opening and sharing the space with the community.
Unfortunately we’ve experienced some delays with finishing the building works and installing some of the furniture. This means we’ve had to postpone the planned opening of the library by a few weeks. Details of the opening date will be confirmed on this web page and on our social media channels as soon as possible.
The temporary building will provide access to library services while we continue work on a long-term plan for the library and other community services in the area.
During the development of the temporary library we’ve consulted with the Davidson’s Mains Primary School community to ensure the facility supports the needs of the school, its pupils and staff.
We’ve carried out additional works at the school to support the delivery of the library, including new fencing and works to the playground to provide new fire safety spaces. We'll also deliver additional road safety works outside the school, including pavement widening.
